This course was originally created by Quake Centre at University of Canterbury, and is hosted by Engineering New Zealand.

This first course in the series covers the fundamental concepts that you may have already studied. It gives you an opportunity to refresh your knowledge and fill in any gaps so that you have a solid foundation to this topic.

This course is intended for people who are unfamiliar with structural dynamic concepts for seismic design. Its gives an outline of the most important principles and analytical methods, provides some explanations of with jargon, and gives an account of particular issues relating to seismic analysis.

This course is to familiarize practicing structural engineers and civil engineering students with the loading and earthquake loading standards in New Zealand along with several methods of structural analysis. This course includes basic definitions from the loading standard, a summary of the earthquake loading standard and detail on the equivalent static and modal analysis method.

In this course, the low damage seismic design of non-structural drywall partitions will be summarized. The design considers the lateral deflections as the only main design parameter.
